#day 3 @ DFi

DFi#3. Tomorrow is day three of digital fluency and I am getting my blog ready ahead of time!
Today in our staffroom we had an interesting discussion on blogging - actually a discussion that I thought we had already had in 2018! If there is one thing some of our teachers are in awe of it is blogging.
Common concerns are "it's public" "do the parents realise their children are blogging" and so the comments continue. It is great to have these discussions but at some point, we need to understand that blogging is a key element in our Learn Create Share pedagogy. Enough - now it is time to reflect on day #3 and think about what I can do over the 7 remaining days of this term.


Today does not seem to have been as overwhelming as last week. To be fair I think that this is in part the beautiful weather and having a face to face presenter. My first take homes for today are the blog feedbacks from Dorothy. She provided me with constructive feedback on some of the things I had been using from the first 2 DFi's and inadvertently answered a couple of questions I had. 'Thank you' Dorothy
I have a learning site but today's workshop refined some of my understanding and raised some new questions. And why do I have an image of bok choy in my blog?? Inserting an image of a lettuce into our shared google site was the last task for me today and it was problematic, hence the lettuce became bok choy and bok choy it shall stay!

    Thanks for sharing your school conversations Adrienne. I think there will always be an element of fear when coming across new things until they are fully understood. Dorothy has given you some amazing quotes relating blogging to learning to drive, that you could make use of in future conversations and hopefully those having these conversations will succumb to trust. Your lettuce/bok choy has made me appreciate your persevering attitude. :)

Today's topic is 'devices'. This was an interesting topic to focus on after 7 / 8 weeks of using devices and exploring what they can do for us as secondary and primary level educators in Aotearoa New Zealand. Media day #7 at Dfi

Day # 7 Media - this was lots of fun and numerous ideas to use now! Today began with a clear focus on connected learning. One of the issues I am facing within my school is " we want to use google classrooms ". At a recent conference with teachers from all over New Zealand - the use of google classrooms came up again. Some maintained that the only difference between google classrooms and hapara is hapara highlights. I have never used google classrooms and was not able to respond. However, Dorothy's presentation this morning re-affirmed that the Learn Create and Share pedagogy is principled on visibility and connectedness. It is argued that google classrooms does not provide this. However, it is clear that I need to do some more research on google classrooms if I am to effectively explain the advantage of hapara. I use hapara for all of the functions it provides and I have just started using workspace which I have described as maybe the 'best thing since sliced bread...

Week 6 DFI dealing with data

Session #6 Dfi. Dealing with data, and much more . Today was a very busy session and there were times when I thought that I might not have enough take-home knowledge. For me it is important that I take something home from these sessions,' this is part of the empowerment that I need if these sessions are to have professional gain for me. Dorothy SHARED the journey for some of the students in her area which reminded me that it is not just about empowering students; this journey is also about empowering fellow teachers. That principals in this region have allowed teachers to attend these sessions during the week is commendable, and shows a realisation that 'digital' is real in the present educational environment. However, as attendees, our commitment goes beyond attendance and participation in these sessions for the 9-week duration.
