DFi # 2 Wednesday 27 March 2019
It's the pencil, not the book"! said last weeks guest presenter. A good comment I thought. This week's presenter then said, "it's not just a tool". Devices need to be seen as a  "platform for learning". I think that it is these things that educators and parents alike, need to understand before they can begin to see the value of devices for learning.
These comments also provide a basis for a really interesting and captivating Masters or PhD thesis or a teacher inquiry!
Today's presenter Gerhard reminded us of our guiding document, the New Zealand curriculum - he used extracts from the curriculum showing that this digital journey aligns with the intent of the NZC. In doing this he also highlighted that the NZC 2007 was designed for future education both in Aotearoa New Zealand (and worldwide).

From today I am going to add labels to my emails to make it easier to find emails and also to find and respond to unread emails! However, it will take some perseverance as I am used to the more cumbersome method of emails simply dropping into my in-box. Change can only be positive.

Here is today's group video which show cases teachers as learners and shows that teachers have to practice to learn.
I have returned today, Monday April 1st, to finish this blog and get it posted. Six days have past since I began this and I have managed to implement some of what we were shown last Wednesday.
My senior classes were most impressed at KEEP notes and by using these we avoided using pen and paper and the students have legible and easily found notes for future reference.
I also decided to make sure  I could set up a google hangout. We practiced during class and on Tuesday evening we are having an evening class. How this might go I can only surmise. As you might imagine the students are not too enamored about having an evening class. Oh well, this is the 21st century.

Today Monday April 1st after school we had our wine and chocolate learning session and those teachers who attended worked through the scavenger hunt from week #1. The first comment made was "I didn't know about explore". All in all it was a positive session and hopefully more teachers will attend in future weeks. The aim of these sessions is for me to share some of what I am gaining at the weekly DFi days.

Enough for this week. Au revoir.

Thank you for your positive, thoughtful and constructive comments.

  1. Hi Adrienne, thanks for taking the time to share what you have learnt and what you have passed on. I will be very interested to hear how the Tuesday night session went with your learners. It must have felt good to teach the so-called 'digital natives' some tips and tricks that they can see a purpose for.
It looks like you had a productive day despite the unusual method of content delivery forced by the state of emergency.
