Digital Fluency Intensive #day1
Today is day one of Digital Fluency Intensive, on the West Coast of the South Island.
As the title suggests it has been an intensive day of learning, creating and sharing - the pedagogy underpinning the vision of Maniakani.
The program today was full of 'take-home value'. However, this value is dependant on me actually doing something with the learnings.
It was also great to learn about the beginnings of the Maniakani journey which I think started as aspirational and is now in a phase of inspirational sharing.
From today, I can go away and do some homework, particularly on the aspects of today which I don't feel fully conversant with. I am also really keen to run some after school sessions with interested teachers from Westland. Additionally, today's session has identified some aspects which could be addressed with the teaching staff at Westland High School by our facilitator Nic. She and I can discuss this, and decide on an action plan.
The key areas covered today included setting up extra email accounts under the smaller photo not the larger photo which comes up when google chrome is opened. I need to learn how to do this, sort my own and show others. This particular tool will be good for sharing during our Friday morning briefings.
The google group session answered my question on how to set up group emails in google. I have already set up a group but I am not sure about adding people who do not have google accounts. No problem something for me to learn.
The filing of documents and sharing of the same provided useful tips, I thought that my drive was fairly organised overall but there were tips that I have been able to apply, for example, colour coding folders!
Connecting the docs was an excellent activity for any of our learning areas and one which I will definitely be using with my classes both Technology and Home Economics. This activity provides an activity for engagement and students and a comprehension exercise.
The scavenger hunt provided an opportunity to demonstrate what I can do: use explore, add a header, colour a page, change the page layout, add a hyperlink, use voice to text - there was very little in this activity when I had to ask "where or what".
Overall today has been an awesome example of Learn Create Share (LCS) and from today I have things to do with both teaching staff and learners at Westland High School!
Today Tuesday 2 April I am going to practice inserting a video I hope I can remember how to do this. I should have practiced after last weeks class.
